Male’, Maldives -09th June 2026 – Marking World Ocean Day on June 8, Six Senses Kanuhura reaffirmed its dedication to marine conservation by signing on as the title sponsor of the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival 2026. The partnership, now entering its third consecutive edition, reflects the resort’s long-standing support for environmental initiatives aimed at protecting the Maldives’ fragile marine ecosystems.
Set to take place in September 2026, the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival has evolved into one of the country’s most significant community-driven marine awareness events. Organized by the Atoll Marine Conservation Centre (AMC) and the local NGO Naifaru Juvenile, the festival brings together students, conservation advocates, government representatives, businesses, resorts, and local communities to celebrate sea turtles while promoting ocean stewardship.
The event has steadily grown in scale and influence. Last year’s festival attracted more than 3,000 participants, including students from multiple atolls and a diverse range of organizations, highlighting the increasing national interest in marine conservation and environmental education.
At the heart of these efforts is the Atoll Marine Conservation Centre, a locally managed rescue and rehabilitation facility based on Naifaru Island. Since its establishment in 2012, AMC has played a vital role in safeguarding sea turtles, providing care for injured animals affected by entanglement, marine debris, and other threats. Its work extends beyond rehabilitation to include coral restoration projects, educational programs, and outreach initiatives designed to strengthen community engagement with marine conservation.
For Six Senses Kanuhura, the relationship with AMC goes well beyond sponsorship. Since opening in Lhaviyani Atoll, the resort has supported the centre through its sustainability initiatives and continues to contribute directly to research and conservation efforts. A dedicated sea turtle biologist based at the resort works alongside broader conservation programs that help protect one of the Maldives’ most important habitats for green sea turtles.
The collaboration also reflects a shared belief that environmental protection is most effective when local communities, businesses, and conservation organizations work together. By supporting the festival, the resort is helping expand awareness, inspire younger generations, and strengthen efforts to preserve the rich marine life that defines the Maldives.
Spread across three private islands, Six Senses Kanuhura is renowned for its pristine beaches, expansive villas, and thriving lagoon ecosystem. Home to resident sea turtles and an abundance of marine life, the resort offers guests a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty that conservation initiatives such as the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival seek to protect for future generations.
