LUX South Ari Atoll Inspires Future Tourism Professionals Through MATI Career Exploration Programme

Male’, Maldives -07th June 2026 – The next generation of Maldivian tourism professionals gained a valuable glimpse into the world of hospitality as LUX* South Ari Atoll partnered with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) to host the 13th edition of the Discover Tourism: Exploring Career Pathways programme.

Held on 7 June 2026, the initiative welcomed students from Grades 6, 7, and 8 of Adh. Dhigurah School and Adh. Atoll School for an immersive day of learning, designed to introduce young minds to the diverse opportunities available within the country’s leading economic sector.

The experience began with an extensive resort tour, where students explored some of LUX* South Ari Atoll’s distinctive guest attractions and facilities. Guided by members of the resort team, participants gained insight into the brand’s philosophy, guest engagement concepts, and the creativity that shapes the visitor experience.

A major highlight of the programme was a hands-on culinary session led by the resort’s culinary professionals. Beyond exploring the operational side of a large-scale resort kitchen, students were invited to take part in a pizza-making activity, providing a practical introduction to the precision, collaboration, and craftsmanship involved in food preparation.

The learning journey continued with an interactive food and beverage workshop, where participants were introduced to service techniques commonly practiced in hospitality settings. From table presentation standards to beverage preparation, students experienced the importance of attention to detail and guest interaction in creating memorable dining experiences.

Housekeeping operations, often considered the backbone of resort hospitality, formed another key component of the programme. Through a villa presentation and demonstrations of guest room preparation, students discovered the meticulous standards and behind-the-scenes efforts that contribute to a seamless stay experience.

The programme also shed light on front office operations, offering participants an understanding of how guest services are coordinated from arrival to departure. The session highlighted the vital role front office teams play in ensuring efficiency, communication, and guest satisfaction throughout the resort journey.

Adding an environmental dimension to the day, students were introduced to the resort’s coral conservation initiatives. Guided by the resort’s marine biologist, they learned about reef restoration efforts and even participated in coral planting activities, showcasing how sustainability and environmental stewardship have become integral to modern tourism.

The Discover Tourism: Exploring Career Pathways programme remains one of MATI’s flagship educational initiatives, connecting students with firsthand industry experiences across the Maldives. Through partnerships with resorts and tourism-related organisations nationwide, the programme continues to inspire future generations by demonstrating the wide range of rewarding career opportunities available within the tourism sector.
