Male’, Maldives -09th June 2026 – Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has reported its strongest financial results in nearly a decade, underscoring a year of remarkable achievements for both the organisation and the Maldives tourism sector. The announcement was made during the Corporation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 9 June 2026 at Meeruma Hall.
During the meeting, shareholders reviewed and approved the Corporation’s Annual Report and audited financial statements for the financial year ending 31 December 2025. The results revealed total self-generated revenue of MVR 32.54 million, marking the highest annual income recorded by the Corporation in the past eight years. Revenue streams were driven by industry memberships, participation in international trade exhibitions and roadshows, publications, and various commercial initiatives, highlighting a growing level of stakeholder engagement and a broader revenue base.
The AGM also reflected on a milestone year for the Maldives tourism industry. In 2025, the destination welcomed more than two million visitors, reaching the landmark figure earlier than any previous year. Tourism earnings surpassed USD 5.57 billion, representing significant growth over the preceding year and reinforcing the Maldives’ status as one of the world’s most desirable holiday destinations.
Visit Maldives played a key role in supporting this success through an extensive programme of international marketing efforts. Destination campaigns, trade partnerships, media collaborations, digital promotions, and strategic outreach across major source markets helped strengthen the country’s global visibility and attract travellers from around the world.
Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving these results. He noted that the year’s accomplishments reflected the combined efforts of government bodies, tourism stakeholders, international partners, and the Corporation itself in enhancing the destination’s competitiveness and economic contribution.
The AGM also reviewed significant organisational developments. In July 2025, the Corporation officially adopted its new identity as Visit Maldives Corporation, replacing its former name following a presidential decree. The rebranding signalled a refreshed strategic direction and a stronger international positioning. Governance improvements were also noted, including an expansion of the Board of Directors and active oversight through numerous board meetings and resolutions throughout the year.
International recognition further elevated the Maldives’ profile in 2025. The destination secured the title of World’s Leading Destination for a sixth consecutive year, while also retaining its position as the World’s Leading Green Destination for a second successive year.
Among the Corporation’s standout initiatives was the launch of a three-year global partnership with Liverpool Football Club, significantly expanding the reach of the Maldives brand to millions of fans worldwide. Additional collaborations included agreements with leading airlines, financial institutions, and travel platforms aimed at strengthening destination promotion and industry partnerships.
Looking ahead, Visit Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable tourism growth, enhancing global marketing efforts, and fostering stronger collaboration across the industry to support the continued success of the Maldives tourism sector.
