Male’, Maldives -22nd April 2026 – Sun Siyam Iru Fushi recently concluded its Earth Day 2026 commemorations with a series of thoughtfully curated, eco-conscious initiatives that reaffirmed the resort’s commitment to sustainable island living. Set within the tranquil surroundings of Noonu Atoll, the celebrations reflected a refined approach to hospitality—one that balances luxury with environmental responsibility, cultural appreciation, and meaningful guest engagement.
Throughout the programme, guests were invited to explore the island’s natural and cultural heritage through guided nature experiences led by the resort’s Chief Gardener and Resident Marine Biologist. These walks offered rare insight into the delicate ecosystems of coral islands, highlighting native flora and fauna while addressing environmental challenges such as erosion and habitat preservation.
A key highlight of the initiative was the Adopt a Coral Frame programme, where guests actively participated in coral restoration efforts under expert guidance. These frames were later transferred to the underwater Nemo Garden, symbolising a lasting contribution to reef regeneration. Complementing this, Conservation Snorkelling sessions allowed participants to assist in reef health surveys using recognised scientific tools, with findings contributing to global marine research databases.
The resort also placed strong emphasis on education and awareness across all age groups. Young guests engaged in interactive marine learning at the Kids Club, while diving enthusiasts pursued specialised sessions focused on shark and ray conservation. Cultural sustainability was equally celebrated through demonstrations of traditional coconut oil production, showcasing time-honoured Maldivian practices still integrated into modern wellness offerings.
In parallel, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi reinforced its commitment to responsible dining through initiatives aimed at reducing food waste, including live cooking stations, portion control, and a structured approach to ingredient reuse.
Speaking on the initiative, Resort Manager Abdulla Atham highlighted that sustainability at the resort extends beyond operational practice, describing it as a shared responsibility shaped by both global expertise and local stewardship.
Located in the heart of Noonu Atoll, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi continues to offer an expansive island retreat across 52 acres, featuring 221 villas, diverse dining venues, a signature spa experience, and world-class marine activities—positioning itself as a destination where refined luxury and environmental mindfulness exist in harmony.
